Application of skills and capabilities is key...

The EAB Daily Briefing released an article today entitled "The skill that's more in demand than coding" And what would that skill be? Broadly speaking, the ability to collect and analyze data to solve problems. The two biggest issues with the coding revolution are: 1) coding in the absence of the ability to solve ill-formed novel problems is not useful; and 2) for communities of color especially, focusing on coding as a skill and not the application and integration of programming (as I prefer to call it) in a larger problem solving context continues to perpetuate the inequities that already exist in Computer Science. Any skill learned in the absence of applying and integrating that skill to solve some larger problem is like faith without works...dead.
